    Az észt dalos ünnepek

    Az éneklés szeretete, a nemzeti öntudat kialakítja az Észtországot éltető összetartozás élményét. A dalos ünnep első megrendezésére Tartuban került sor, 1869-ben. 1879 és 1910 között 10 dalos ünnep volt, majd 1918 után minden 5. évben kerül sor a nyár eleji találkozókra. A II. világháború alatti kényszerű hallgatás után az első dalos ünnepet 1947-ben szervezték. A hagyomány megmaradt. Minél erősebb volt a politikai nyomásgyakorlás a 20. században, annál nagyobb politikai súlya volt a fesztiválnak.

    Doris Lessing's London Observed and the Limits of Empathy

    London Observed (1992) portrays London as a palimpsest which is profoundly different from the urban representations in Lessing’s early novels. As opposed to In Pursuit of the English (1960), The Golden Notebook (1962) and The Four-Gated City (1969), the volume depicts the metropolis as a joyful yet visibly controlled space, imagined by an unnamed narrator who is relentlessly wandering in the city. The London it presents hides secreted lives, yet it also requires the repression of empathetic affective responses to the lives of others. As I argue in this paper, the metropolis allows the narrator to enjoy urban life while remaining unaffected by its everyday traumas: she is not a hypersensitive urban observer in this city, but a disillusioned psychogeographer who opts for indifference in order to survive in the metropolis. Instead of offering alternative possibilities, as de Certeau believed in “Walking in the City,” walking produces a controlled and indifferent vision of the city in London Observed: it appears as an act that re-inscribes new narratives upon repressed stories. When read from today’s post-millennial vantage, we might discern how Lessing’s collection presciently suggests that the British capital, from the late 1980s onwards, was becoming not only a more visibly gendered and multicultural place, but also an indifferent and apathetic city, habitable at the price of declining empathy.

    Az Erdélyi Református Egyház 18. századi püspökeinek irodalmi munkássága

    This article examines the literary legacy of the bishops of the Reformed Church in Transylvania in the 18th century. It provides a bibliography of the written works of the 17 authors and analyzes this data, focusing on the genres in which the bishops wrote, the locations of publication, the languages used, and any potential correlation between their writings and their election. The study reveals that nearly two-thirds of the 135 works are funeral sermons. The large number of joint services conducted by later bishops suggests a strong connection between representative funeral services and their election. Most bishops published at least one Latin disputation during their studies abroad, but the vast majority of the books were written in Hungarian and printed in Kolozsvár. The sermon texts, theological works and literary writings vary significantly, reflecting each bishop’s ndividual field of work and interest.

    Kép, jelenlét, kenózis a kortárs francia költészetben és Valère Novarina színházában

    A kötet a képi fordulat különféle művészeti ágakban és a tudományban is megfigyelhető jelenségével, valamint a fogalmi metafora elméleti keretével kívánja bevezetni és összefogni két nagy témáját: a francia költészet és a színház reprezentációhoz fűződő, szerteágazó kérdésfeltevéseit. A könyv első fejezeteiben két olyan kortárs francia költészeti irányzatot taglalunk, melynek viszonya a képhez különböző módon, de meghatározó (Yves Bonnefoy és Lorand Gaspar, valamint Jean-Michel Maulpoix). A kötet második felében néhány olyan színházi gyakorlatot választottunk ki, amelyek az emberi képmás, az emberi "bálvány" lerombolására és újbóli összerakására tesznek kísérletet (Grotowski, Kantor, Barba, Novarina), s ebben a folyamatban a költészet eszközeit is használják. Ezeknek a színházi gyakorlatoknak, melyek közül Valére Novarina életművét emeljük ki, közös nevezője, hogy nemcsak a dramaturgiájukban ismétlik az önmegüresítés folyamatát, hanem a színészvezetésben is alapvető helyet adnak neki. A második rész tehát, nem tagadva a színházi gyakorlatok egyéb inspirációs forrásait, a Novarina életműve szempontjából központi jelentőségűnek tekinthető teológiai kenózis-fogalom színházi, színháztudományi alkalmazására tesz kísérletet, s ebben különösen támaszkodik H. U. von Balthasar teológiai esztétikájára, Xavier Tilliette munkáira, Simone Weil színház- és kenózis-koncepciójára, továbbá Kálvin, Karl Barth, Paul Tillich és Kazoh Kitamori műveire. A tárgyalt alkotók vonatkozásában elsőnek tekinthető magyar nyelvű monográfia mellékletében közölt, Túl a szakrálison című Valére Novarina-esszé magyar fordításban most jelenik meg először.

    Képregényvakság az ifjúsági kultúrában és a gyermekirodalomban

    A tanulmány a gyermekirodalom körébe sorolt szövegek és a képregény médiuma egymásra hatását vizsgálja. Számot vet a képregényként interpretált alkotások sajátos műfaji és narratív sajátosságaival, azok történelmi kontextusával. Párhuzamokat és egymásra épüléseket keres a képregény és a vizuális, valamint sajátos narratív formákat gyakran alkalmazó gyermekirodalom között. A zárórész a gyermekirodalom fogalmának kitágításaként az „írásbeliség” kompetenciarendszerét és az iskolai, didaktikus olvasmányműfajok problémáját is bevonja az összehasonlításba.

    The paradigm of expressive writing and its well-known benefits in the field of improving mental health are well known since the end of the twentieth century. In my essay, I would like to explain the connections of this approach with the highly influential works of John Bradshaw as well as the concept of self-healing through expressive writing with the help of the example found in the classical Hungarian epistolary novel Fanni hagyományai.

    Even before the formal literacy education most of the children meet literacy in a spontaneous way. Emergent literacy is the term used to describe young children’s developing literacy skills before formal reading and writing instruction in school. Much research has demonstrated that the home environment serves as an important influence in the development of emergent literacy skills in young children. Family literacy refers to literacyrelated processes, for example when family members engage in shared story reading which positively influences young children’s motivations to read. Since babies and toddlers (children under three) are dependent on their parents and carers for access to books, developmentally appropriate reading materials (board and tactile books, picture books and storytelling books nursery rhymes), are recommended which are of high quality, age appropriate, challenging without frustrating, worthy of attention for parents and carers.

    Poetic Rituality in Theater and Literature

    Toward the end of the twentieth century, in art as well as ritual studies, cultural turns contributed to elaborating a broad definition of ritual and rituality. Rituality is now generally regarded as one of the master keys to understanding not only cultures in general but also arts in particular. Poetic rituality sheds light on the liminal characteristics of the art form and references to ritual practices, ritual forms and structures that are set in motion in a way that allows special aesthetic characteristics and semantic aspects to arise. The contributors to the volume - theater and literary studies scholars as well as students from Yale, Bielefeld, Károli University, and the Grotowski Institute - had the opportunity to share their related works in the course of several recent international academic events. Since our team also included dramatists, dramaturgs, and directors of theater, our workshops offered frames for sharing insights into artistic laboratories, especially in the barrack-dramaturgy of András Visky and the work led by Jarosław Fret at the Grotowski Theater. Complementing the many different approaches to poetic rituality, all of the workshop presentations and studies brought together in the present volume continue to demonstrate how fundamentally rituality can contribute to the formal, semantic, pragmatic, and structural unfolding of literary and theatrical art works. Besides continuous theoretical reflections, a vast array of examples is given, ranging from Greek, Japanese, English, and Hungarian to German, Russian, French, and Sámi drama, performance, and theater productions, as the studies in the present volume also illustrate.

    A tanulmány Orisek Márta, nagykőrösi költő Pünkösd felé, pünkösd után című verseskötetének szövegeit közelíti meg Carl Rogers humanisztikus pszichológiájának kommunikációs gondolkodásmódja felől: itt a folyamat eredendően gyógyító, segítő és segített közti párbeszéd, mely nyelvi természete révén könnyen párhuzamba állítható a költészet befogadása során létrejövő helyzettel. Feltárja, hogy bár a vers, lévén önálló szöveg, aktív kommunikációs megnyilvánulás, mégis Orisek Márta verseinek beszélője a segített kommunikációs helyzetébe helyezkedik, a segítő szerepében pedig a személyes formában megjelenő Isten személyére történik utalás.

    Shakespeare's art of poesy in King Lear. An emblematic mirror of governance on the Jacobean stage

    William Shakespeare’s King Lear has long received considerable attention for textual, philological and theatrical reasons. This monograph combines the most recent academic research and the close reading of the 1608 Quarto text to find answers to the question what makes this play an outstanding and exceptional work of art. Written to be performed to a courtly audience, the text bears traces of the dramaturgical heritage of Tudor interludes as well as the tropes of early Jacobean public discourses on royal power. Relying on The Arte of English Poesie, George Puttenham’s Early Modern handbook of rhetorical and poetic conventions, the monograph offers a historically plausible understanding of the play and argues that the corporeal image cluster of the text corresponds to the rhetoric of the royal discourse based on the tropes of the body politic. The research findings eventually lead to the conclusion that the 1608 King Lear Quarto stands as a dramatic response to royal propaganda and it is meant to hold a mirror of governance to the royal court and to King James in particular, who supposedly was present at the first performance of the play in Whitehall.
