| dc.description | The purpose of the conference organised at and by Károli Gáspár University of the Reformed Church in Hungary between the 15th and the 17th of October 2013 was to discuss the basic theological principles that led to the foundation of Christian Universities in Hungary twenty years ago, after the collapse of Communism. The conference also intended to celebrate the founding of our university. The work has been organized in three panels: Christian Universities; Confessionality and Nation; Religiosity and Protestantism Today. Presenters of the first panel were asked to discuss the challenges and opportunities for Christian universities and tor redefine a vision for their work and presence in the current postmodern, secular world. Representatives of both the Catholic and the Protestant Universities were requested to reflect upon their missions within the traditions of their respective European and North American Catholic and Protestand higher educational contexts. Professor Gottfried Adam, speaker of the second panel connected the topic of the first panel (education) to that of the second panel (Confession and Nation). The panel session on the third day entitled 'Religiosity and Protestantism Today' was opened by the former Prime Minister of the Netherlands, professor Jan-Peter Balkenende. This panel examined the change in the role of the religion in international and Hungarian context. We hope this anniversary volume will launch other fruitful discussions and reflections on our respective specific institutional missions, engaged in a world where religious decline and unchurching is a tangible phenomenon. | |
