    Overconfident, but angry at least. AI-based investigation of facial emotional expressions and self-assessment bias in human adults

    Metacognition and facial emotional expressions both play a major role in human social interactions [1, 2] as inner narrative and primary communicational display, and both are limited by self-monitoring, control and their interaction with personal and social reference frames. The study aims to investigate how metacognitive abilities relate to facial emotional expressions, as the inner narrative of a subject might project subconsciously and primes facial emotional expressions in a non-social setting. Subjects were presented online to a set of digitalised short-term memory tasks and attended a screening of artistic and artificial stimuli, where their facial emotional expressions were recorded and analyzed by artificial intelligence. Results show self-assessment bias in association with emotional expressivity – neutrality, saturation, transparency – and the display of anger and hostility as an individually specific trait expressed at modality-dependent degrees. Our results indicate that self-assessment bias interplays in subconscious communication – the expression, control and recognition of facial emotions, especially – with empathetic skills and manipulation.

    Pilinszky János színházi és filmes víziója ma

    2021-ben kettős évfordulót ünnepelhettünk: 100 éve született és 40 éve halt meg Pilinszky János. Életműve azonban máig élő - sőt, az évek számos új kutatást inspiráltak az alkotó halála után is. Ezek közé tartoznak a színházi és filmes víziójával kapcsolatos vizsgálatok. A Károli Gáspár Református Egyetem - partnerségben a Petőfi Irodalmi Múzeummal, a Nemzeti Színházzal, a Csokonai Színházzal, az Országos Színháztörténeti Múzeum és Intézettel, a kolozsvári Babeş-Bolyai Tudományegyetemmel - a Petőfi Kulturális Ügynökség támogatásával 2021. november 26-27-én ünnepi konferenciával, művészeti eseményekkel és hallgatói pályázatokkal ünnepelte a kettős évfordulót. A tanulmánykötet témája Pilinszky János színházhoz és filmhez kapcsolódó tevékenysége, azaz színházi víziója, dráma- és kritikaírói munkássága, valamint ezek forrásai. Szó esik Pilinszky műveinek színházi és filmes feldolgozásairól, illetve ezek hatástörténetéről, utóéletéről is. Több tanulmány méltatja a szerző irodalom-, színház- és filmtörténeti jelentőségét a műfajköziség lehetőségeinek maximális figyelembevételével. A kötetet a kerekasztal-beszélgetésben részt vevő költők, színházi és filmes rendezők alkotásai, valamint a művészeti események fotói egészítik ki. Kiadványunk a költő eddig kevéssé ismert arcát igyekszik bemutatni: olyan alkotóét, aki (noha költőként vált ismertté) számos más művészeti ágat inspirált, ugyanakkor saját költészetét is több művészeti ág inspirálta. A kutatók és a laikus műélvezők számára egyaránt olyan "egyenes labirintus" ez, "melyben / mind tömöttebb és mind tömöttebb / és egyre szabadabb a tény, hogy röpülünk".

    Poetic Images, Presence, and the Theater of Kenotic Rituals

    This book explores the interrelation of contemporary French theatre and poetry. Using the pictorial turn in the various branches of art and science, its observable features, and the theoretical framework of the conceptual metaphor, this study seeks to gather together the divergent manners in which French poetry and theatre address this turn. Poetry in space and theatricality of poetry are studied alongside theatre, especially to the performative aspect of the originally theological concept of "kenosis". In doing so the author attempts to make use of the theological concept of kenosis, of central importance in Novarina’s oeuvre, for theatrical and dramatological purposes. Within poetic rituals, kenotic rituals are also examined in the book in a few theatrical practices – János Pilinszky and Robert Wilson, Jerzy Grotowski and Eugenio Barba – facilitating a better understanding of Novarina’s works. Accompanied by new English translations in the appendices, this is the first English language monograph related to the French essayist, dramaturg and director Valère Novarina’s theatre, and will be of great interest to students and scholars in theatre and literature studies.
