Education and Political Responsibility
Abstract
Kofi Annan (1938-2018 the formal UN secretary general and Nobel peace prize winner) wrote: „Literacy is a bridge from misery to hope. It is tool for daily life in modern society. It is a bulwarkagainst poverty, and a building block of development, an essential complement to investments inroads, dams, clinics and factories. Literacy is a platform for democratization, and a vehicle forthe promotion of cultural and national identity. (...) For everyone, everywhere, literacy is, along with education ingeneral, a basic human right... Literacy is, finally, the road to human progress and the meansthrough which every man, women and child can realize his or her full potential.”
