Abstract
A jogban megnyilvánuló igazságosság legobjektívebb mércéje: a diszkrimináció tilalma. A kisebbségek egyes jogosultságai (így például a diszkrimináció tilalma) az emberi méltósághoz való joggal forrnak össze. A nemzeti kisebbségek részesedhetnek egyéni jogokban, kollektív jogokban és autonómiában. Magyarországon tizenhárom népcsoport kapta meg a nemzeti kisebbségi státuszt. A csoport bővíthető a legalább száz éve Magyarországon honos, legalább 1000 főből álló népcsoportok kezdeményezése esetén. Legújabban a vietnamiak kérvényezték maguknak a nemzetiségi státuszt.
The most objective measure of justice manifested in law is the prohibition of discrimination. Certain rights of minorities (such as the prohibition of discrimination) are intertwined with the right to human dignity. National minorities may enjoy individual rights, collective rights and autonomy. In Hungary, thirteen ethnic groups have been granted national minority status. This list may be expanded upon the initiative of any ethnic groups established in Hungary for at least a hundred years and comprising at least one thousand people. Most recently, the Vietnamese community applied for national minority status. The Roma in Hungary can be classified into three large and several smaller groups. According to the letter of the law, nationalities have been granted significant electoral preferences in our country. However, according to a ruling by the European Court of Human Rights, in practice, very few nationalities are able to effectively utilize these benefits. In the field of minority protection, we should focus not on what divides us, but on what unites us.
