Abstract
A tanulmány a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia IX.
This study examines the operation of Hungarian law journals listed by the State and Legal Sciences Committee of the Section of Economics and Law of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, based on empirical evidence. The analysis focuses on technical visibility – particularly DOI coverage – publication activity, institutional concentration, and international indexability. Using data from the Hungarian Scientific Bibliography (MTMT), the study reveals that a substantial proportion of journals face structural challenges, including limited publication activity, low international visibility, and risks related to institutional inbreeding. Rather than providing a normative ranking, the article adopts a diagnostic approach, identifying systemic patterns that affect the sustainability and scientific credibility of the Hungarian legal journal ecosystem. Building on the empirical findings, the study formulates minimum requirements and development pathways that respect national linguistic and institutional characteristics while aligning with international publishing, ethical, and indexing standards.
